Caleb took a test from Lesson 2 and scored 100. He started Lesson 3, which introduces the rest of the unit blocks (Caleb has been using just the 1, 10 and 100 blocks) which is the starting point of addition problems.
LANGUAGE ARTS
I have been reading aloud from a book of both silly and spooky Halloween Poems. We did find another Pippi Longstocking book to read too. Caleb read a phonics book aloud and one day he got to practice spelling words using spellingcity.com, which he really enjoyed. "Hang Mouse is the best game!"
Caleb did some more letters in his MLB, practicing writing words and sentences.
S.S./SCIENCE
We started learning about the moon and the planets in the solar system. For a combined SS/Science project, Caleb made a calendar for the month of October, and each day he draws a picture of what the moon is doing for the day, to track its changes. The calendar gives him good practice with the days of the week, as well as an understanding of the moon's phases. He learned some moon facts, like, "Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon."
We have stayed in the stone age longer than originally planned because Caleb is really enjoying the books we're reading. After learning about the tools that hunters and gatherers made, he was inspired to make his own spear and further explore life in pre-historic times.
"I'm a Hunter!"
ART
Caleb started a leaf project at Greenwood, collecting leaves to make luminaries. He also got to experiment with wet on wet watercolor painting.
P.E.
Caleb went to his weekly swimming class where practiced strokes and breathing while swimming for longer distances.
