Caleb is in 1st Grade this year and enrolled in Columbia Virtual Academy.

As Mom and Teacher, I'll give a brief description of what he has done in each subject for the week.

Week 23

MATH
Caleb's math lesson this week concentrated on subtracting one and zero.  He practiced counting backwards by one and recognizing and memorizing subtraction facts with one and zero.  As always, his daily worksheets include practice with story problems.

LANGUAGE ARTS
Caleb began learning word with consonant blends.  He learned BL, BR and CL.  We have been reading Indian stories so the sentences he made up often had to do with Indians.  He enjoyed drawing a clown next to a list of CL words.

We continued reading a variety of stories including books about George Washington, Indians, and Little House in the Big Woods.

SCIENCE/S.S.
Caleb continued to learn about electricity through fun books ("Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip was really silly!") and games, including a computer game that allows you to "test" the conductivity of different materials in an electrical circuit.  The books we read taught Caleb about many things, including how power plants make electricity, how electrical appliances work, and how magnetism can make electricity.  Of course, many experiments with magnets and static electricity followed.  "Shocking people was funny!"  The picture Caleb drew was after making an inventory of the many things in a house that use electricity.  He drew the electrical appliances, light bulbs, and the wires that are connected to a power plant.
We continued reading about George Washington and early American history.  Caleb practiced with his Spanish DVD, which has a fun song that teaches the vowel sounds.  It also included a cooking demonstration with plantains, as the DVD lessons usually also teach a cultural aspect of Mexico.

ART
Caleb was sick this week and couldn't attend his art class.  He did get a chance to work on his knitting project at home.

P.E.
One sunny day early this week gave Caleb a chance to go for a hike outside.  Then the snow and cold weather came, and Caleb was sick for a few days, so he had to spend time resting up at home this week.
