Caleb is in 1st Grade this year and enrolled in Columbia Virtual Academy.

As Mom and Teacher, I'll give a brief description of what he has done in each subject for the week.

Week 19

MATH
Caleb did Lesson 15 this week in math, which taught him addition problems that equal 10.  He did well on the exercises and we also did some card games to help reinforce the addition he learned and help him memorize the important 10 facts.

LANGUAGE ARTS
Caleb worked on word endings OG, ON, OP, and ORE.  He practiced reading aloud the paragraph that goes with each word ending and then wrote words in his MLB.  He thought the paragraph with OG words was pretty funny and he wanted to copy it.  Although there are mistakes and he still wants to write in mostly uppercase letters, it was the longest amount of writing that he volunteered to do.

In addition to reading from his phonics books, we finished reading Paddle-to-the-Sea"At the end of the story, the boy that made the canoe was grown up.  He found out that Paddle-to-the-Sea actually made it to the sea and it made him happy."

SCIENCE & S.S.
We read some more about volcanoes, how they are formed and, using a map, looked at where around the world they can be found.

Caleb set up his own "store" as we began discussing economics.  He learned about different goods and services that people sell and do for others in the community.  "I sold bagels I made and books and other things.  When people don't have enough money I trade with them."  Today we read a story about an Algonquin Indian girl and what life was like in her community.  People in her tribe didn't use money and instead traded each other for things and we made comparisons about the economies of different communities.

ART
Caleb worked on stitching a bag he is making in art class.  It is not quite finished but I was impressed at how well it is coming.  He picked out the different fabrics he wanted to use and has hand-stitched three sides by himself.  He plans to complete it next week.  This week some kids at the class made puppets and Caleb helped make a puppet stage out of cardboard.

P.E.
Caleb did indoor exercises, as well as took walks in town in the slushy snow.
